The Ag Innovation Campus is the next stage in ag tech and innovation development for Northeast Colorado and the Central Great Plains.
The Logan County Economic Development Corporation is leading the charge by acquiring the former Great Western Sugar complex in Sterling, CO. This 35 acre site includes a variety of resources and infrastructure assets to support early stage and growth companies alike.
Phase 1 involves the 7800 sq ft former QA and Sugar Testing Lab. This structure is being brought back to life to utlize large shop space for product development and testing, plus rooms for office, testing, and eventually lab analysis equipment.
Phase 2 will include the Commodity Warehouse structure that offers 16,800 sq ft of freespan structure with 25ft sidewall height, and a 70ft peak ceiling. This unique structure offers opportunities for a variety of product testing and demonstrations.
Future phases: As the project evolves other structures will continue to be reactived on the parcel. These include the 5000 sq ft Mechanic Shop, 2000 sq ft two story Office Building, and 2000 sq ft two story historic Manager's House.
A key driver of the project is to pay homage to the heritage of the site and what it has meant for ag innovation and economic prosperity for the area since 1905.
FACTORY FARM - Demonstration Site
One of the most unique aspects for the project is partnership with the adjacent ownership to offer 170 acres of irrigated farm ground under management of the Ag Innovation Campus to allow on site product testing, field trials, and demonstrations. A top priorty of the project is to provide an intersection between ag producers and the companies building the tech. With the Factory Farm we are able to do that in a meaningful way.
While this is a work in progress, we are proud of what we are building and look forward to sharing it with the ag and founder community. Anybody interested in a tour or partnership opportunities are encouraged to contac the LCEDC Executive Director, Trae Miller, to discuss.
